I'm wearing a "Cavedog" shirt today. Cause I'm the kind of geek that wears shirts from companies or projects I've been on.

You may remember Cavedog as being part of Humongous, which was in turn part of GT Interactive, which became part of Infogrames, which went out and gobbled up the remnants of Atari and decided that was a nice name.

Today Atari announced it was shutting down the Humongous Studio.

Man, I totally dodged that bullet.

By something like 5 1/2 years. Whew.

I'm the kind of geek that...

As many games that I've dropped some dough on, I have to say that TA: Kingdoms is still one of my favorites. Cavedog's finest.

And mad props to Infogrames for Majesty. I still try and play it even if it locks up on me constantly! Love that one...

TA:K (not one that I can take any credit for) had a lot going for it - it certainly had a visual richness that TA didn't. A lot of people found the single resource model a little too simple.

It's funny that you should mention Majesty - that's my current game of choice. I found a number of copies of the thing for $10 in the discount software bins, so I probably have a good 3 or 4 copies of it lying around, including the first edition, which I paid full price for.

Sadly, I haven't heard any hints of Cyberlore (the creators of Majesty) getting around to making a sequel. Rather, it looked like they were trying to do something big and 3d, which seems to have floundered.

more gold, your Majesty!
