I just saw "Deliverance" (1972, Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty, Ronny Cox). I was impressed at how well the movie holds up after all this time - the photography and the acting of a movie this old ought to look wrong to a modern eye, but really the only time I remembered I was looking at an old movie was when I was looking at a young Burt Reynolds - when he still took himself seriously, I suppose.

The other thing that struck me about this movie is that Jon Voight reminded me of a sober Dave Foley.

I offer that as alternate history - what would the world be like if Dave Foley had taken dramatic roles more substantial than "It's Pat" and "Monkeybone"?

I mean, when your most acclaimed role was alongside Joe Rogan, that's scary.

Man, that show was underappreciated. I look at the cast and I think that most of them won't go on to do anything better, although both Maura Tierney and Khandi Alexander have landed substantial roles sticking their hands in guts, so good for them.

I couldn't agree more. I'm buying the DVDs as they come out and enjoying the episodes quite a bit -- the joke generation algorithms are still better than the vast majority deployed in today's scriptwriting CPUs.
