I was going to leave it alone and do something more useful with my day, but instead, I kept tinkering with it, and it's sort of playable.

I've made a Windows EXE, or if you're a crazy person and want the source, that's fine, too.

No instructions, no guarantees. If it formats your grandmother, I take no responsibility.

Heh, yeah, when I decided that I wanted a reference, I went to that exact page on Amazon.

Yeah, the festively colored sombreros were directly modeled after that cover.

If I develop this further, I have several directions to go with the visuals, one direction is still loosely Seuss-y, but still non-realistic.

There's a pitch I wrote up for my day job that's not too far removed from the ideas I explore here - if that pitch gets picked up, it would involve licensing the worlds of a certain director of animated films. The visual style would be much more realistic in that case.

Even if I don't develop it further, it's a study in whimsical non-realistic graphics. The space golf game I made for that "game in a week" challenge had a deliberate graphical style to it, but several people suggested that I make the graphics more realistic, which wasn't the direction I wanted to go at all.

I think that if my next game's visuals have a roughly Seussian level of absurdity, it might be clear that I'm making deliberate choices, rather than attempting realism.
