I'd like to thank the academy
  • I bought a new office chair today. It's a replacement for the chair that's been in front of my computer for the past 11 years or so. Only recently, the old chair's been falling apart. At first, I was frustrated by this, and then I considered how much mileage, so to speak, I got out of it, and I was consoled.
  • I bought the chair at Staples, which a coworker and I have decided is the source of all bargains. They offered to put the chair together for me for $5, and near the end as I was trying to figure why the second armrest wasn't fitting, I thought that I could have spared the money. But I persisted, and now I'm reclining in this chair, and it's awfully comfortable.
  • It seems to smell like pine, though.
  • When did the Oscars start having better commercials than the Superbowl?
  • Each year, I'm saddened and surprised by the list of film figures that have died. Rest in Peace, folks.
  • My new drink of choice is "Mike's Hard Lime". I mention it because my glass is empty right now.
  • "We're so thankful that Lord of the Rings did not qualify in this category"
  • I'm a Pixar softie. I'm delighted to see them getting some Academy respect.
  • I'm rather disappointed with myself for seeing so few of the nominated films and performances. Oh, well. Maybe next year I'll do better. I gotta imagine that I won't be crunching to finish a game through most of 2004.
  • I miss the days when I lived in Boston, and some of you good people would see movies with me on a weekly basis.
  • Congratulations to all you dead white male fantasy authors out there.

ah good times, good times. I don't think I've had pineapple on my pizza since.

Indeed.

Recently I had a pizza with mandarin orange wedges and pineapple. I suppose if ham and pineapple is a stretch, I can't convince you that orange and pineapple is worth trying, but it's one more step along the pizza spectrum in the dessert pizza direction.

In other news, I can't get "Belleville Rendez-vous" out of my head, the Oscar(tm) nominated song from the Oscar(tm) nominated animated film "The Triplets of Belleville".

Which - in a roundabout way - reminds me, I bought an Eagles album yesterday. It seems that Weekend Edition Sunday was playing "The Journey of the Sorcerer" as transitional music for a (short?) while, and I only knew that song as the music at the end of the Hitchhiker's Guide episodes, so it was an awfully strange thing to be hearing coming out of my radio when I wasn't quite awake on the weekend. But that piece got stuck in the back of my head, and I've been trying to get it out by listening to it over and over. For better or worse, it's been replaced by "Belleville Rendez-vous".

I don't know why I'm blaise about pineapple on pizza - I mean I like warm pineapple/fruit in chinese food, but on pizza I don't swoon over it. Not that I won't eat it, it's still good - just something I never think to order.

Seafood on piza is just wrong too, but take away the dough and add some pasta - very very happy.

Offhand, can't think of what "The Journey of the Sorcerer" sounds like. Oh well. Much love though for "Belleville Rendez-vous", they guy was playing a bicycle forchristsake. I almost wanted to root for them over The Mighty Wind but didn't and was sad when LotR won. Small constellation (what? try consolation dude) to be had for the LotR sweep though. (still in shock over Eniemem winning last year)

And that concludes this pizza/oscar-music discussion moment.

Yeah, I can't think of a single piece of seafood I like on pizza. Shrimp I can occasionally handle as finger food by itself, but for a guy who's lived near an ocean his whole life, I'm not much of a salt-water food fan.

Check out http://www.thebigcdomain.com/media/hhgttg.html for some help. Either it'll be immediately recognizable, or it won't. For me, the song sends shivers up my spine and recollects what I thought infinity would be like when I was 9 years old.

Ugh - I just listened to the second two links on that site I linked to above. Just listen to the 6:37 MP3, that's the Eagles' version and has the instrumentation as I remember, whereas the other two bury the melody nearly to the point of unrecognizability.
