I've never been a big Will Ferrell fan. I understand he's great to work with, really supports other actors working with him, but as an audience member, I just find him irritating.

two things: a) love Jenna, hate SJP. I guess that makes me a poor man.

2) you find Will Ferrell, the most brilliant comedian of our time, irritating? can you possibly be my friend? I don't even RECOGNIZE you at this moment. =P

a) SJP was at her best, I think, in L.A. Story. Since then, downhill. Or down the side of a cliff. Down, anyway. Jenna Elfman has been in some not so good roles, too, including the flop that I just watched - Looney Toons Back In Action. Could have been a fun movie, but somehow died beneath the weight of coordinating with the animation, I think.

The best line, I think, was Brendan Fraser's character taking credit for doing Brendan Fraser's stunts in The Mummy.

b) Hm. Steve Martin and Robin Williams both rank higher than Will Ferrell in my comedian food chain. I've been trying to put my finger on why WF doesn't work for me - the frumpy screwup characters that he does so well with just don't click for me, somehow. Certainly Steve Martin has played screwup characters (to some degree, witness L.A. Story) and it worked for me.

Yeah, I don't know.

Okay, okay... here's the horrifying truth: while I love Robin and worship Steve, I don't think of either of them as being "of our time." They were big when I was a mere lass. I think of them as belonging to my brothers' and sisters' time, not mine. And I'm *older than you*.

There's a subtlety to WF's humor and a humanity to his characters that I just don't see from anyone else. Yes, I called him subtle. :)

As long as they're still working, I'll count em. ;)

Yeah, comedy isn't really a rational thing, so by definition I can't give you the reason that WF doesn't spark with me. I can nod my head thoughtfully and appreciate people's descriptions of WF's work, and I can even identify those things when next I see him, but my ultimate reaction is still that he gives me the creeps.

I enjoyed watching him on Dinner For Five, though.
