What do you do in these situations?

I got mail from Dad last night, concerned that my mailserver was down. I have a vanity email domain so that I can be reached at an email address resembling my name, and considering it's just a couple lines in a configuration file, I extend that luxury(?) to my family.

So, I check and the mailserver process did, in fact, need to be restarted, but that's no big deal. Appearantly, Dad's big concern is that pings to my machine time out. I run this past my ISP guy, and his best suggestion is to reset the DSL modem.

So I get to spend lunchtime climbing under a desk at home. Whee.
