Shuffle 4

Ow ow ow

I've got a little bit of a sore throat. That's not what the subject is about, I'll get to that.

I'm taking dance lessons. Yes, I'm aware that that's not got a lot of sequitorness to it. Dance lessons for swing and country dancing. I hesitated before I typed "country". I don't own cowboy boots, I'm not really fixin' (hee) to get me some, I don't have a gun rack in my car. Not that there's anything wrong with thems that do. Just not my thing.

Similarly, much of the whole country/western dancing thing isn't my thing, either. However, the Cowboy Cha Cha is pretty and graceful, and I intend to cram the thing into my head, and if at all possible, my muscle memory. I think I've got much of it in my head, it's just not completely natural yet.

So, I'm taking these lessons at my favorite local dance hall (I've linked to it before, I imagine. Not interesting to most of you, I'm sure), and the proprietors of that place also DJ events and dances around the area. And they rent out their hall, which means that when there's a rental at the hall and an event on the road, they're stretched thin. So they sent out a call to see if anybody would be interested in helping them DJ their event. And I said that sure, I'd love to help. They're good people, I enjoy supporting their business, I want to support them in other ways, if I can. And hey, I was already planning to go to the event in question anyway.

This was a while ago, before I came down with a bit of a cold. Which is now manifesting as a bit of a sore throat. But I'm a trooper, and a sore throat really ought not interfere with playing CDs, right?

Well, sure. But one doesn't treat a cold by doing physical labor in setting up speakers and whatnot, and staying up to (yikes!) 3am, and driving home in the cold, and... yeah, I'm expecting to regret this in the morning.

Oh, and probably the least of the reasons for my assorted aches and pains is that I slipped and fell while doing the setup. Nothing broken, no scrapes, no bruises. But I imagine that my elbow, for example, might not have been as sore just now, had I skipped the "horizontal on concrete" dance step.

But yeah, mostly just lots of lugging heavy boxes to and fro.

Ugh. I sure am glad I have fun hobbies.

But on the up side, I did get to try out my Cowboy Cha Cha, and it wasn't a complete catastrophe. Some more practice and it might even become acceptable.

Oh, ow ow ow. What is it, lactic acid in your muscles? That sounds wrong. Hm. Google suggests that it is. I'm sure I'm a big sack of lactic acid right now.

I think I'll leave you with that image.
