This is why I love/hate movies

and computers.

I was just trying to configure my laptop to play streaming movies from NetFlix when it bluescreened and proceeded not to boot.

That's the best. Thanks, Microsoft Windows Media Player updates!

I wonder how much cruft on that machine I can recover. I was just poking around on that machine earlier today, and noticed that there was a moderate amount of stuff that could bear to be archived off the machine. Now I don't know if the drive is completely toast or just the boot sector.

In not-destroying-my-laptop news, I watched "Lawrence of Arabia" and "The Others". Lots of "Huh, look at him in that movie" moments, including Jose Ferrer and Alec Guinness (I guess Emperor Shaddam IV and Ben Kenobi rode camels together when they were young) and Christopher Eccleston (whose name was much more familiar to me than his face was in "The Others").

Earlier this year, I was looking at my "must see movies" list, and challenged myself to try to see all the movies on that list that came out in my lifetime by the end of 2008. I'm a little behind on that, but I think I can catch up (hence the trying to stream movies from NetFlix). If you're at all interested in the list, it's here Collapse )

I've seen a couple of these movies before, but they didn't make enough of an impression on me at the time, so I've resolved to watch them again.

Gr - I hate going to bed with a dead laptop. It won't be any more dead when I get up, I guess.
