Stardust Micro-review
Thumbs up.

A fine movie for those who like fencing, fighting, airships, pirates, witches, princes, unicorns, and goats.

It reminded me of many other movies, but unlike some movies I've seen this summer, didn't leave me feeling like I had seen a rehash of other films. A sweet, fun, magical flick.

We want to see this soon. Also looking forward to "The Golden Compass" which my daughter read sometime last year.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing that one, too. Something about the polar bear has got me hooked.

There was a trailer for "The Golden Compass" as well as one for "Beowulf". I'm unsure what to make of Beowulf - it looks like it might be some of that catastrophically bad animation that made "The Polar Express" so jarring. I'll wait and see how that turns out.

I was telling my neighbor that I really enjoyed it - I guess he had read the original book, which I haven't. I suggested it was appropriate for families, which kind of surprised him. I guess the book had a "graphic sex scene" (which you may or may not agree with, depending on how your sensibilities are calibrated, relative to his, of course). I assured him that the film didn't have anything graphically sexual.

I mentioned that it did have entrails, which I'd be hesitant to expose kids to, but my neighbor's kids have already slaughtered chickens, so he thinks that'd be fine.
