Daddy, what's a rack? It's where I keep my computers.

Shamelessly ripping off Lou's subject line and subverting it for geeky purposes.

Last night, I assembled a rack for a couple of my computers. I now have compute power that I can wheel anywhere in the house. You know, in case I need to render animated movies from the laundry room. Come to think of it, maybe the laundry room is the best place for this thing, cause it's rather noisy.

Right now, I'm noodling over a design for a set of Python scripts that would more or less transparently take advantage of a compute farm. Again, in case I need to animate laundry or whatever. The idea that's bubbled to the top just recently is to use a shallowly-hierarchical blackboard architecture to distribute jobs around to worker computers. The thing that currently doesn't quite feel right is amount of coding overhead involved in each pass through the blackboard.
